The 5ive Pillars Organization announced the launch of a new program to support Afghan youth and their families in the East Bay region.
The Afghan Youth & Family Engagement Support Program will start Friday, September 15 and provide free tutoring and mentorship to Afghan K-12 students in the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD). The program will then continue each Friday at 3:30 p.m. through the academic year.
In partnership with HUSD, as well as with support and funding from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), CAIR California, UC San Diego, this program aims to target recent Afghan arrivals who have resettled into the Hayward community.
Tutoring will consist of core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and History. Tutors will have cultural awareness and knowledge of Farsi and Pashto in order to provide sensitive and dignifying support, congruent with the mission of The 5ive Pillars Organization.
Interested tutors and mentors may submit a resume and cover letter to team@the5ivepillars.org. The tutoring will be based in Hayward, California.
